Biography

 

Maarten Combrink (2000) is a Dutch jazz trombonist and composer. Because of his drive to learn, his versatility and his professionalism he is developing rapidly as one of the most active trombonists in the Netherlands in a wide variety of styles. He plays regularly with the Metropole Orkest and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, while being a member of the Peter Beets New Jazz Orchestra, Spinoza Orkest, Gerardo Rosales Quartet, Jasper Blom Bigband, Eric van der Westen PTM, Huize Lucas and BvR Flamenco Big Band.  

 

Maarten also played/recorded with Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Dutch Swing College Band, Son Bent Braam, New Trombone Collective, Paradox Jazz Orchestra, New Cool Collective, Cubop City Big Band, Orkest Koninklijke Luchtmacht, Marinierskapel, Rolf Sanchez and New Composers Pool.

 

After winning the ITA Carl Fontana Competition in 2021, he recently won the J.J. Johnson Jazz Trombone Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah. Maarten studied at the conservatories of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, where he graduated with a 9,5.
